X120Mn12 / SIDUR 3401 High Manganese Wear-Resistant Steel

X120Mn12 (SIDUR 3401), also called Hadfield steel, is a non-magnetic, high-carbon, high-manganese austenitic steel known for excellent abrasion resistance and impact strength. It work-hardens up to 600 HB but has low corrosion resistance and poor machinability.

Composition: C 1.00–1.30%, Mn 11.00–13.00%, Si ≤0.40%, Cr ≤0.55%, P ≤0.020%, S ≤0.001%.

Specifications: ASTM A128 Grade B2, 1.3401, 120Mn12, with equivalents like 110G12, X110Mn14.

Applications: Railway parts, shot blasting liners, recycling and dredging equipment, safes, conveyor components, crusher jaws, and impact wedges.

Mechanical Properties: Yield strength ~350 N/mm², tensile 800–1000 N/mm², hardness ~200 HB after quench, up to 600 HB work-hardened.

Processing: Hot forming at 1050–850°C, low machinability, commonly supplied as wear-resistant steel plates.
