Aluminum-coated pipes are typically made by forming a steel strip into a tube and welding the seam. After forming, the steel surface is coated with aluminum or an aluminum alloy via hot-dipping or spraying.
Reasons for Welded Construction:
Cost Efficiency: Welding allows the use of thinner steel strips and mass production, which reduces manufacturing costs.
Ease of Coating: The flat steel strip is easier to clean and coat evenly before rolling and welding.
Sufficient Strength: For most automotive exhaust applications, a welded pipe provides adequate mechanical strength.

2. Aluminum Diffusion (Seamless) Pipes
Manufacturing Process:
Aluminum diffusion pipes (true aluminized pipes) are generally made from seamless carbon steel tubes. After the tube is formed, it undergoes a high-temperature aluminum diffusion process, where the aluminum layer metallurgically bonds to the steel surface.
Reasons for Seamless Construction:
High-Temperature Resistance: Seamless tubes can better withstand thermal stress and expansion without weaknesses at a seam.
Uniform Coating: The diffusion process requires a smooth, continuous steel surface to ensure uniform bonding of the aluminum layer.
Corrosion Resistance: Seamless tubes eliminate the seam as a potential corrosion initiation point, which is critical in high-temperature exhaust systems.
Applications:
Automotive high-performance exhausts, industrial chimneys, and high-heat flues where maximum durability and corrosion resistance are required.
