Abrasion resistant steel plate (AR steel plate) is a quenched and tempered wear-resistant steel designed to withstand abrasion, impact, and sliding wear in heavy industrial environments such as mining, construction, cement plants, and material handling systems.
Globally, AR steel is commonly identified by AR grades (AR400, AR450, AR500, etc.), while in China, the equivalent system is mainly the NM series (NM360, NM400, NM450, NM500, etc.).
1. Common Abrasion Resistant (AR) Steel Grades
The most widely used international AR steel grades include:
AR400 Steel Plate
- Hardness: ~360–440 HBW
- Balanced wear resistance and toughness
- General industrial wear applications
AR450 Steel Plate
- Hardness: ~430–480 HBW
- Higher wear resistance than AR400
- Used in heavy-duty equipment and liners
AR500 Steel Plate

NM series is widely used in domestic production and engineering applications.
