The “400” in AR400 refers to the approximate Brinell hardness value (HBW) of the steel plate.
- AR400 means the steel has a hardness of around 400 HBW (Brinell Hardness Number)
- In practice, the hardness range is usually about 360–440 HBW, depending on manufacturer standards and thickness
Why Hardness (400 HBW) Is Important
Hardness is the key factor that determines the wear resistance performance of steel.
