Corten metal panels refer to weathering steel sheets used in shipping containers, corrugated siding systems, architectural façades, and industrial structures. In container manufacturing, these panels are mainly used as side panels, roof panels, and structural enclosure sheets, where strength and corrosion resistance are critical.
Because corten steel is a standardized industrial material, its specifications are generally defined by thickness, width, length, and steel grade.
1. Common Corten Steel Grades (Container & Panel Use)
Corten metal panels are produced under different international standards, but all belong to weathering steel categories.
International Grades
- ASTM A606 Type 4 (most common for thin panels and siding)
- ASTM A588 (structural weathering steel)
- ASTM A242 (early corten grade)
- EN S355J2W (European structural weathering steel)
- EN S355JOWP (improved corrosion resistance grade)
- JIS SPA-H (Japanese container steel grade)
Chinese Equivalent Grades
- Q355NH (most widely used export-grade corten steel)
- Q235NH (lower strength weathering steel)
- Q295NH (medium strength grade)
- 09CuPCrNi-A (railway & container steel)
- Q450NQR1 (high-strength weathering steel)
Among these, Q355NH, ASTM A606, and ASTM A588 are the most commonly used for container and metal panel applications.
2. Common Thickness of Corten Metal Panels

For shipping container use, the most common thickness is 1.6–2.0 mm.

1. Corrugated Container Panels
- Deep rib corrugated structure
- High structural strength
- Used for shipping containers and modular units
- Thickness: 1.6–2.0 mm
2. Flat Corten Sheets
- Smooth surface without corrugation
- Used for fabrication and cutting
- Suitable for laser-cut panels and structural parts
3. Architectural Siding Panels
- Light gauge corten steel
- Decorative façade systems
- Thickness: 0.8–1.5 mm
4. Roof Corten Panels
- Corrugated or trapezoidal profile
- Designed for drainage and weather resistance
- Thickness: 1.0–1.6 mm
