Product Details
304L 2B stainless steel sheet is one of the most widely used austenitic stainless steel products in industrial and commercial applications. It combines the excellent corrosion resistance of 304L stainless steel with a smooth, uniform 2B surface finish, making it suitable for fabrication, welding, and general engineering use.
1. What Is 304L Stainless Steel?
304L is a low-carbon version of 304 stainless steel. The reduced carbon content improves its resistance to intergranular corrosion, especially after welding.
Main characteristics of 304L:
- Excellent general corrosion resistance
- Improved weldability compared with standard 304
- Reduced risk of carbide precipitation after welding
- Good formability and deep drawing performance
- Suitable for welded structures and pressure-related applications
Because of these advantages, 304L is widely used in chemical equipment, food processing systems, water treatment structures, and industrial fabrication.
2. Chemical Composition of 304L Stainless Steel
Typical composition includes:
- Chromium (Cr): provides corrosion resistance
- Nickel (Ni): improves toughness and stability
- Carbon (C): kept at a low level (≤0.03%)
- Manganese (Mn): enhances strength and hot working performance
- Silicon (Si): improves oxidation resistance
The low carbon content is the key difference between 304L and standard 304 stainless steel.
3. What Is 2B Surface Finish?
2B finish is a cold-rolled stainless steel surface produced through annealing, pickling, and final light rolling (skin-pass process). It is the most common industrial surface finish for stainless steel sheets.
Surface characteristics of 2B finish:
- Smooth and uniform matte appearance
- Slightly reflective but not mirror-like
- Low surface roughness
- Excellent flatness
- Suitable for further processing such as cutting, bending, and welding
4. 304L 2B Surface Features
When 304L stainless steel is produced with a 2B finish, it offers:
- Clean and consistent industrial surface
- Good resistance to dirt accumulation
- Easy maintenance and cleaning
- Stable surface quality for fabrication
- Suitable base surface for polishing or coating
It is widely used as a standard surface condition for industrial stainless steel sheets.
5. Processing Performance
304L 2B stainless steel sheet performs well in various fabrication processes:
- Laser cutting with smooth edge quality
- CNC bending with good formability
- TIG and MIG welding with stable weld joints
- Stamping and forming for complex shapes
- Surface finishing such as brushing or polishing if required
Because of its low carbon content, it maintains good corrosion resistance even after welding.
6. Common Applications
304L 2B stainless steel is widely used in:
- Food processing equipment
- Chemical storage tanks
- Water treatment systems
- Industrial kitchen equipment
- Architectural metal panels
- Pharmaceutical equipment
- Welded structural components
