Product Details
High wear resistance steel refers to a group of engineered steels designed to withstand severe abrasion, impact, and erosion in harsh industrial environments. These materials are widely used in mining, construction, cement production, steel plants, and heavy machinery industries where surface wear is a major failure mode.
Different types of wear-resistant steels are developed based on hardness level, alloy design, and working wear mechanism.
1. Abrasion Resistant (AR) Steel Plates
AR steel is one of the most common wear-resistant materials.
Typical grades:
- AR400
- AR450
- AR500
- AR550
Characteristics:
- Quenched and tempered structure
- Hardness range: ~360–600 HBW
- Good balance of hardness and toughness
- Stable performance under sliding and impact wear
Applications:
- Mining equipment
- Dump truck liners
- Excavator buckets
- Conveyor systems
2. NM Wear Resistant Steel (Chinese Standard)
NM steel is widely used in domestic and export markets.
Typical grades:
- NM360
- NM400
- NM450
- NM500
Characteristics:
- Controlled hardness levels
- Stable production standard (GB/T system)
- Good weldability and processing performance
- Comparable to AR series steels
Applications:
- Construction machinery
- Mining liners
- Wear plates for industrial equipment
3. High Manganese Steel (Hadfield Steel)
High manganese steel is a special wear-resistant material with unique work-hardening behavior.
Composition:
- High Mn (11%–14%)
- High carbon content
Characteristics:
- Low initial hardness
- Becomes extremely hard under impact
- Excellent impact resistance
- Difficult to machine
Applications:
- Crusher jaws
- Ball mill liners
- Railway crossings
- Heavy impact environments
4. Chromium Carbide Overlay (CCO) Plate
CCO plate consists of a base steel with a hard wear-resistant overlay.
Characteristics:
- Extremely high surface hardness (up to 60–65 HRC)
- Excellent abrasion resistance
- Not suitable for forming or bending
- Very long wear life
Applications:
- Cement industry chutes
- Coal handling systems
- High abrasion conveyor parts
5. Quenched and Tempered Alloy Steel
Some structural steels are specially heat-treated for wear resistance.
Examples:
- 4140 / 42CrMo
- Alloy tool steels
Characteristics:
- High strength and toughness
- Moderate wear resistance
- Good machinability
Applications:
- Heavy-duty shafts
- Mechanical components
- Industrial machinery parts
6. Martensitic Wear Resistant Steel
This type of steel is heat-treated to form a hard martensitic structure.
Characteristics:
- High hardness
- Good abrasion resistance
- Moderate toughness
- Good for cutting and impact parts
Applications:
- Industrial blades
- Wear tools
- Mechanical wear parts
7. Summary of High Wear Resistant Steel Types
| Type | Hardness Level | Wear Mechanism | Main Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| AR Steel | High | Sliding + impact | Balanced performance |
| NM Steel | High | Sliding + impact | Standardized system |
| High Mn Steel | Variable | Impact hardening | Extreme impact resistance |
| CCO Plate | Very high surface hardness | Severe abrasion | Longest wear life |
| Alloy Steel | Medium | Mechanical wear | Machinability |
| Martensitic Steel | High | Cutting wear | Hard cutting edges |
