Product Details
Chromium Carbide Plate (also called weld overlay wear plate or CCO plate) is a composite steel product made by depositing a chromium carbide hardfacing layer onto a steel base plate. It is widely used in mining, cement, power plants, and bulk material handling systems due to its excellent wear resistance.
One of the most important selection factors is its standard and customized size range.
Base Plate Thickness (Back Steel Layer)
The base plate provides structural support and impact resistance.
Common base thickness options:
- 3 mm – 6 mm: light-duty applications
- 6 mm – 10 mm: standard industrial use
- 10 mm – 20 mm: heavy-duty wear conditions
- 20 mm – 40 mm: extreme impact environments
Materials are usually low carbon steel or low alloy steel.
Overlay Layer Thickness (Wear Layer)
The chromium carbide layer determines wear resistance performance.
Common overlay thickness:
- 2 mm – 3 mm: light abrasion protection
- 3 mm – 5 mm: standard wear resistance
- 5 mm – 8 mm: heavy wear conditions
- 8 mm – 12 mm: extreme abrasion environments
Multiple welding passes are used to build up the required thickness.
Standard Plate Size Formats
Chromium Carbide Plate is typically supplied in standard sheet sizes for fabrication convenience.
Common width and length options:
| Thickness Type | Common Width | Common Length |
|---|---|---|
| Thin plate | 1000 mm – 1250 mm | 2000 mm – 3000 mm |
| Standard plate | 1250 mm – 1500 mm | 3000 mm – 6000 mm |
| Heavy plate | 1500 mm – 2000 mm | 3000 mm – 8000 mm |
Custom cutting is also widely available based on drawings.
Common Specification Notation
Chromium carbide wear plates are often described using combined thickness format:
| Specification | Base Plate | Overlay Layer | Total Thickness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6+4 | 6 mm | 4 mm | 10 mm |
| 8+4 | 8 mm | 4 mm | 12 mm |
| 10+5 | 10 mm | 5 mm | 15 mm |
| 12+6 | 12 mm | 6 mm | 18 mm |
| 16+8 | 16 mm | 8 mm | 24 mm |
These specifications are widely used in industrial procurement.
Edge and Surface Conditions
In addition to thickness, other specification details include:
- Flat or slightly warped surface tolerance
- Crack relief pattern (typical welding stress design)
- Smooth or patterned overlay surface
- Cut-to-size or standard sheet delivery
These factors affect installation and fabrication performance.
Application-Based Size Selection
Different thickness combinations are selected based on wear conditions:
- Light wear: thin base + thin overlay
- Medium wear: balanced base and overlay
- Heavy wear: thick overlay for long service life
- Impact-heavy zones: thick base for structural strength
