Product Details
Hardfaced Steel Plate is a composite wear-resistant material produced by depositing a high-hardness alloy layer onto a carbon steel or low-alloy steel base through welding overlay technology. It is widely used in industries where severe abrasion, erosion, and moderate impact occur, such as mining, cement production, power generation, and bulk material handling.
The combination of a tough base plate and a hardfaced surface layer provides both structural strength and excellent wear resistance.
Material Structure
Hardfaced steel plate consists of two main functional layers:
- Base Layer: Carbon steel or low-alloy steel providing strength and impact resistance
- Hardfaced Layer: Wear-resistant alloy coating providing surface hardness and abrasion resistance
The two layers are metallurgically bonded, ensuring strong adhesion and long-term stability.
Chemical Composition of Hardfacing Layer
The wear-resistant overlay layer typically contains chromium-based alloy systems.
| Element | Typical Content (%) | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Chromium (Cr) | 20–35 | Forms hard chromium carbide phases |
| Carbon (C) | 3–5 | Creates carbide compounds for wear resistance |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance | Matrix structure |
| Manganese (Mn) | Small amount | Improves toughness and weldability |
| Silicon (Si) | Small amount | Stabilizes welding process |
These elements form hard carbide structures such as Cr₇C₃ and Cr₂₃C₆, which are responsible for high abrasion resistance.
Mechanical and Wear Properties
High Surface Hardness
The hardfaced layer typically achieves:
- 55–65 HRC hardness range
- High microhardness in carbide-rich areas
Excellent Abrasion Resistance
Hardfaced steel plate performs well under:
- Sliding wear
- Particle erosion
- Material flow abrasion
- Moderate impact abrasion
Good Structural Toughness
The base steel absorbs impact energy, reducing the risk of cracking in harsh operating conditions.
Strong Metallurgical Bond
The overlay layer is welded onto the base plate, ensuring:
- No delamination during service
- Stable long-term performance
- Resistance to mechanical stress
Wear Resistance Mechanism
The performance of hardfaced steel plate is based on:
- Formation of chromium carbide hard phases
- Uniform distribution of wear-resistant particles
- High-hardness surface layer resisting cutting and grinding
- Tough substrate absorbing mechanical impact
