Product Details
309 stainless steel sheet is a high-temperature austenitic stainless steel designed for excellent oxidation resistance and thermal stability. It is widely used in heat-resistant industrial equipment where moderate to high temperature exposure is required.
What is 309 Stainless Steel Sheet?
309 stainless steel (UNS S30900) is an austenitic alloy with higher chromium and nickel content than standard 304 stainless steel, giving it improved resistance to scaling and oxidation at elevated temperatures.
It is commonly used as a transition grade between 304 and 310 stainless steel, offering a balance of cost and high-temperature performance.
Key characteristics:
- Austenitic structure (non-magnetic in annealed condition)
- High-temperature oxidation resistance
- Good mechanical strength at elevated temperatures
- Excellent thermal stability
Chemical Composition of 309 Stainless Steel
| Element | Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.20 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 22.0 – 24.0 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 12.0 – 15.0 |
| Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 2.0 |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤ 1.0 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.045 |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.030 |
Key insight:
Higher chromium content significantly improves oxidation resistance, especially in high-temperature environments.
