Product Details
Stainless steel duplex plates refer to a family of stainless steels with a mixed austenitic and ferritic microstructure. This dual-phase structure provides a combination of high strength, excellent chloride corrosion resistance, and good toughness, making duplex stainless steel widely used in demanding industrial environments.
What is Duplex Stainless Steel Plate?
Duplex stainless steel (DSS) contains roughly equal proportions of austenite and ferrite phases, which gives it superior mechanical and corrosion performance compared with standard stainless steels.
Key characteristics:
- High strength (about twice that of 304/316)
- Excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking
- Good pitting and crevice corrosion resistance
- Good weldability (with proper procedures)
Main Duplex Stainless Steel Grades
Duplex stainless steels are generally divided into standard duplex, lean duplex, and super duplex categories.
1. Standard Duplex Grades
2205 (UNS S32205 / S31803)
Most widely used duplex stainless steel grade.
Composition highlights:
- Chromium: ~22%
- Nickel: ~5–6%
- Molybdenum: ~3%
Features:
- Excellent balance of strength and corrosion resistance
- High resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking
- Good weldability
2. Lean Duplex Grades
2101 (UNS S32101)
Cost-effective duplex grade with reduced nickel and molybdenum.
Features:
- Lower cost compared to 2205
- Higher strength than 304/316
- Moderate corrosion resistance
2304 (UNS S32304)
Balanced lean duplex grade.
Features:
- Good corrosion resistance
- Higher strength than austenitic stainless steel
- Suitable for structural applications
3. Super Duplex Grades
2507 (UNS S32750)
High-performance duplex stainless steel.
Composition highlights:
- Chromium: ~25%
- Nickel: ~7%
- Molybdenum: ~4%
- Nitrogen added for strength
Features:
- Extremely high corrosion resistance
- Excellent resistance to seawater and aggressive chemicals
- Very high mechanical strength
255 (UNS S32550 / Zeron 100 type)
Special high-alloy super duplex grade.
Features:
- Strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
- High strength in harsh environments
- Used in extreme offshore conditions
Duplex Stainless Steel Grades Summary Table
