Common Stainless Steel Plate Grades
Stainless steel plates are generally classified into austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex, and precipitation-hardening grades. The most commonly used industrial grades include:
1. 300 Series (Austenitic Stainless Steel)

Key Performance of Stainless Steel Plates
1. Corrosion Resistance
Stainless steel contains chromium (≥10.5%), which forms a passive oxide film:
- Prevents rust formation
- Self-healing surface layer
- Excellent durability in harsh environments
2. Mechanical Strength
Different grades offer different strength levels:
- Austenitic (304, 316): moderate strength
- Martensitic (410, 420): high hardness
- Duplex (2205): very high strength
3. Heat Resistance
Certain grades can withstand high temperatures:
- 304: up to ~870°C intermittent use
- 316: better stability in high-temperature corrosive environments
- 321: improved resistance to thermal fatigue
4. Formability and Weldability
- 300 series: excellent forming and welding performance
- 400 series: limited formability compared to 300 series
